Communities - South Slave

There are two larger communities in the driveable South Slave of the Northwest Territories, with extensive visitor services. These are Hay River, on the shore of Great Slave Lake, and Fort Smith, located on the Slave River and nestled on the edge of Wood Buffalo National Park. Each South Slave community is located on a river - the Hay River, Kakisa River, Slave River, and the Mackenzie River. The rivers have played a part in visitor opportunities in each community - from fishing possibilities, to adventure kayaking, to camping and hiking.
